Job Description

The Senior Legal Counsel provides expert and professional legal advice, guidance and support to ensure that the legal and reputational risks faced by the area of coverage are identified, reported and mitigated. This role will typically report to an Associate or Deputy General Counsel. 

Key tasks may involve the following:

• To be an accountable lawyer to the Global Liquidity and Cash Management (“GLCM”) business on all material legal issues that the business faces

• Execute against relevant policies and procedures for the relevant area of coverage to ensure that Legal's role in the second line of defence can be executed

• Advising relevant Management on non-standard legal and reputational risks

• Evaluating and responding to changes in legal and regulatory requirements as they arise

Role Purpose

  • To provide the global, European and UK GLCM businesses (including GLCM Digital) with prompt, commercial, practical and high quality legal advice and support;
  • To advise on legal developments and key regulations that impact GLCM;
  • To provide legal advice and support for strategic and long-term business and operational initiatives, including within the GLCM and GLCM Digital innovation agenda; 
  • To provide legal support on complex negotiations of GLCM customer documentation;
  • To provide legal advice, guidance and support to the relevant businesses to ensure that HSBC’s exposure to legal risk is managed and the execution of related operational strategies and initiatives are facilitated.
  • To provide expert and professional legal advice, guidance and support to ensure that the legal and reputational risk of the relevant area are identified, reported and mitigated. 

Requirements

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Qualified lawyer with relevant post qualification experience
  • Knowledge and experience of banking and financial services regulatory law. Experience in payments/cash management/digital product areas desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to prioritise
  • Communication and inter-personal skills
  • Lateral thinking/problem solving skills
  • Developing leadership skills

This role will be a mix of home and office working, with the main office location being 8 Canada Square, London.
