About this role
BT relies on submarine cables to deliver domestic services (UK Core Network, superfast broadband (Highlands and Islands etc), Enterprise Managed Networks, 4G, 5G, broadcasting etc) within the UK meeting UK consumer and business customers expectations.
BT also relies on submarine cables to form the backbone of the global transmission network delivering services and products to BT’s multinational corporate customers (GS ‘Digital GS’ services (Cloud of Clouds, Optical Connect, Voice). 97% of BT’s international traffic globally is carried over submarine cables.
This job ensures that BT subsea cable assets are procured, managed and operated in way that meets BT’s customers requirements from a delivery and commercial perspective.
You'll have the following responsibilities
- Chairing / attendance at project / progress meetings and reporting back as necessary
- Lead and manage the implementation of Submarine Cable Systems whole life cycle projects to time and budget ensuring technical and commercial standards are achieved in accordance with customers agreed requirements
- Co-ordination of Contract Variations / options in a timely manner
- Liaison with other groups / overseas partners, as necessary, to ensure that acceptance testing and commissioning are carried out in line with the requirements of the technical specification
- Financial control and budgetary forecasting
- Closure of project, archiving of records and preparation of documents for maintenance groups, as necessary.
- Large scale and multiple projects that deliver strategic infrastructure
- Motivate Project Team & make internal customers & suppliers aware of progress and issues
- Produce and maintain project plans including risk registers, resource plans
You'll have the following skills & experience
- Experience using Project Methodology (i.e. Prince2).
- Strong skills in creating and delivering a delivery plan including identifying and managing risks, issues, dependencies, finances and resources
- Knowledgeable in business strategy and the drivers of organisational performance, including people drivers of performance and financial literacy (e.g. business KPIs, business cases)
- strong skills in building the case for change, drawing on data and analytical techniques where appropriate, and communicating this to business audiences
- identify opportunities to use collaborative approaches and continuous improvement. You contribute to projects as a subject matter expert or content owner.
- Technical expertise to evaluate the impacts and links between structure, people, process and technology. You think through the whole systems context, new perspectives and insight before taking on projects.
